MPSG is very proactive, both locally and at a national level. We aim to influence policy and debate in a direction that will be positive for our area, to instigate actions that will benefit it, and to raise awareness of coastal issues.

The links below, and on the right, give the detail of some of the activies we are involved in, or have undertaken in the past.

Currently (early 2012) active projects include:

Local – MSTaG; West Beach Selsey Shingle Tracer Project; Pagham-Bracklesham Marine Conservation Zone/Reference Area campaign; Selsey Coastal Trust; educational videos (Medmerry Managed Realignment, Shingle Tracer Project); Securing foot, cycle and equestrian paths across the Peninsula (and particularly in the Medmerry area); Development of a Selsey Economic Forum to engage with the RSPB on economic development issues at Selsey.

National – NVCC action to “balance the needs of people and nature” (to secure a protocol from Natural England on how that quango will deal with coastal communities put at risk due to its interpretation or enforcement of environmental regulations); MPSG action to get the RSPB to develop a corporate responsibility policy to address the fact the extension of designated areas that it is lobbying for (under its “Futurescapes” initiative) has the potential to harm the social & economic interest of many coastal communities.
